Azithral 500 Tablet is an antibiotic medicine that can be used to treat different infections caused by bacteria.
These include infections of the blood, brain, lungs, bones, joints, urinary tract, stomach, and intestines. It can also be used to treat sexually transmitted diseases.
It stops the growth of the bacteria causing the infection and clears the infection. Take it for as long as prescribed by the doctor and avoid skipping doses.
This will make sure that all bacteria are killed, and they do not become resistant.
Directions to use
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Azithral 500 Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
How it works?
Azithral 500 Tablet is an antibiotic. It works by preventing synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Thus, it stops the bacteria from growing, and prevents the infection from spreading.
Side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to azithromycin: (hives, difficult breathing, swelling in your face or throat) or a severe skin reaction (fever, sore throat, burning in your eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling).
Seek medical treatment if you have a serious drug reaction that can affect many parts of your body. Symptoms may include: skin rash, fever, swollen glands, flu-like symptoms, muscle aches, severe weakness, unusual bruising, or yellowing of your skin or eyes. This reaction may occur several weeks after you began using azithromycin.
Call your doctor at once if you have:
Severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody
Fast or pounding heartbeats, fluttering in your chest, shortness of breath, and sudden dizziness (like you might pass out)
Liver problems - nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, tired feeling, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
Call your doctor right away if a baby taking azithromycin becomes irritable or vomits while eating or nursing.
Older adults may be more likely to have side effects on heart rhythm, including a life-threatening fast heart rate.
Common azithromycin side effects may include the following
Diarrhea;
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain; or
Headache.
Warning
You should not use azithromycin if you have ever had jaundice or liver problems when you have previously taken this medicine.
