Introduction to Dental Implants

A dental implant is a structure that replaces a missing tooth or partial or complete jaws with missing teeth. With the use of screw-like devices, the surgeon inserts an implant into the jawbone, and it acts as an anchor for holding an artificial tooth, called a crown.

Ameloblastoma

Ameloblastoma is a rare kind of tumor that starts in your jaw, often near the third molar teeth or other molars. It consists of cells that form the outer layer of the tooth i.e. enamel which protects the teeth. This tumor can cause pain, swelling and can change the appearance of the face. If it goes untreated for a long time, it may become cancerous and migrate to the lymph nodes or lungs which can cause severe problems.

Dentigerous Cyst

Dentigerous cysts are one of the common type of odontogenic cysts. An odontogenic cyst is a fluid-filled sac that develops in the alveolar bone over a tooth that hasn't erupted yet or which is impacted. This cysts mmostly affect the molars or canines, and they are second in prevalence after the periapical cysts.

Odontogenic Tumors

Odontogenic tumors are quite uncommon lesions of the jaws. They may be derived from odontogenic ectoderm or ectomesenchyme layers. Odontogenic tumors are always considered as a differential diagnosis for any kind of new growth in the jaws. Pericoronitis

Pericoronitis is the inflammation of the tissue surrounding a third molar teeth, also known as wisdom tooth. This condition most often occurs in molars that are partially impacted, or not fully erupted into the oral cavity. It is more common in lower molars than in the upper ones. Most people with pericoronitis have a flap of gum tissue partially or completely covering the crown of the erupting tooth.
